Biography


British/Italian Victoria Nava’s brilliant spinto soprano is well rooted in the Italian singing tradition, with the stamina for Wagner and a flair for English as well as French opera.


She made her professional opera debut in 2003 as Mimi in Cesena, Italy and the following two years she was a part of the prestigious Vilar Young Artist Programme at the Royal Operab House, Covent Garden.   Here she made her debut as Sacerdotessa Aida. There she also covered/sang  Marguerite Faust,  Freia Rheingold,  Liù Turandot, Desdemona Otello (Verdi),  Female Chorus in Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia, Antonia Les contes d´Hoffmann, Ellen Peter Grimes, Yvette La Rondine, First lady Die Zauberflöte and Katerina in Martinůs’ The Greek Passion.


Victoria Nava later performed Elisabetta Don Carlo for the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden as well as at Den Norske Opera and the Freiburg Opera. Her opera performances also include Santuzza Cavalleria Rusticana for Trondheim Symfoniorkester Drama, and Den Jyske Opera, Denmark. Tosca for TSO Drama and Oscarsborg Operaen, Norway where she in 2010 also performed Aida. Autumn/winter 2010 she went on tour across Denmark and Germany with Den Jyske Opera as Manon Lecaut and in 2011 could be seen and heard as Antonia Les Contes d´Hoffmann at Bergen Nasjonale Opera, a coproduction with Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra and singing Mimi in Puccini’s La Boheme at the Ljusterö Opera Festival outside Stockholm. Victoria was on tour again with Den Jyske Opera as Tosca in the spring of 2013. A role she did again in June 2014 for Vestfoldfestspillene.

In 2015 Victoria sang the role of Margherita in Boito’s Mefistofele, in Trondheim. This was a co-production between TSO Musikkteater and Krakow Opera.


Victoria Nava has performed Verdi Requiem with many prestigious Orchestras across Europe (including a fully staged production at Staatstheater Kassel, Germany), Strauss Vier letzte lieder with the City of Birmingham Symphony and Kristiansand Symphony Orchestras and Beethoven’s 9th symphony with Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra and Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra. She also thoroughly thrives during concerts of mixed opera repertoire with a particular love for Verdi and Puccini.


She has been engaged by most of the leading orchestras in Scandinavia, the State Academy Symphony Orchestra of Russia, the Russian Philharmonia of Moscow and several orchestras around Europe.


Victoria Nava studied at the «Conservatorio G. Rossini» in Pesaro, Italy, and graduated with a degree in singing from the Royal Opera Academy, Denmark. She grew up in Trondheim and is now based on Askøy outside Bergen, Norway, after several years abroad.
